What have we been doing in Class 5H
We have an exciting and creative curriculum planned for the summer term for our year 5 pupils.
In English, we have started reading a child-friendly version of Romeo and Juliet. This has already inspired children to write some fantastic newspaper reports. After exploring the features of a biography, children are currently researching a famous person to write their own. The children are looking forward to writing and sharing them and learning about other inspirational people.
In maths, we have just finished a multiplication and division topic and have started a fractions topic. Children will be building on their prior learning of fractions and begin to add fractions with different denominators and learn how to multiply them.
Science is very exciting this term. We will be looking at life cycles, learning the difference between mammals, amphibians and insects and even have our very own ant farm to study! We are also investigating how to grow broad beans successfully.
We have also many other rich learning opportunities planned for the children; learning about Hinduism and visiting a Mandir in RE, learning about the British Empire in history and learning about Fair Trade in geography to name but a few.
Every week, we will also be using circle time to explore a Hearts related value. We have already been thinking about compassion and difference and have been trying really hard to show perseverance in our learning. This term, we will also be exploring honesty, fairness, loyalty and service.
